"To me, being on the same 'wavelength' means to be on the same page, from the same mold, or cut from the same cloth. It was this phrase—cut from the same cloth—that served as the inspiration for my pieces in this exhibition.
A while ago, I picked up a scrap of fabric—cream-colored with blue spots—from my guild's free table. At my first meeting of the Modern Guild, I sewed that cream-colored fabric scrap together with some other scraps, which were just supposed to be sample pieces. But, I realized that these 'scraps' fit the bill perfectly when I was invited to exhibit here at VAM.
As a quilter, I have fingers in a few sewing groups: traditional, contemporary, and modern. I asked myself, "Are they so different?" Ultimately, I don't think so. We can learn so much from each other; we have this uniting love of fabric, of creating beautiful, interesting, and functional work. In other words, we quilters and artists are on the same page, cut from the same cloth, and on the same 'wavelength.'" ~ Gillian Moss
