International Quilt Festival in Long Beach - July 22-25, 2010

International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, CA
Thank you for volunteering your time in the SAQA booth! - Please plan to arrive early to allow yourself to find a parking space if you are driving here. In the lobby - find the Volunteer Check-In Kiosk to get your name tag. You will need your Driver's License for this. Review the map and parking info in purple below. $10 to park.

Most of the shifts overlap, and it will be up to each shift of volunteers to train the incoming group. We will need 2 money people - 1) credit card/cash and checks 2) receipt writer. All instructions will be at the table. If Jamie can do this, so can you. There will be a sign in sheet at the booth for you to indicate that you have worked your shift.  We will be selling books and memberships, and hopefully some art quilts in the two exhibitions.

If you are working the opening shifts at Preview or on the mornings of Fri/Sat/Sun, please arrive on time. The doors to the Convention Center open at 8:00am, so if you want to get your name tag early, you can. You will need to show the guard your name tag to get down to the exhibit floor before the show opens to the public. Please go straight to the exhibit, and avoid the vendor area when the show is not open. Questions? Please e-mail Jamie at

Festival Teachers
July 22, Thursday 9am-noon: Quiltlets: Very small quilts for short attention spans with Jane LaFazio -   Create a tiny, hand painted quilt of your own design using simple materials. Jane will gently guide you to draw your own design or trace a copyright free image onto cloth, then paint and hand stitch, using some fun basic embroidery stitches. Your creation could be used on it’s own as embellishment for a jacket or tote, or create more for a larger piece. As seen in Jane’s article in Oct/Nov 09 Quilting Arts magazine on Quiltlets.

July 22nd, Thursday 2-5pm Floral Rubber Stamps: Design and Carve your own
A rubber stamp of your own design is a wonderful addition to an artist’s personal ‘tool box.’ Create a simple, graphic design to be used again and again on paper, cloth or any surface. Jane will guide you to select an flower image from a copyright free source, change it, simplify it and then, once it’s your own unique creation, carve the design into a small printmaking block. You’ll use this skill again and again!
