Barbie's 50th Anniversary. Due July 10th; accepted artwork notifications will be mailed by July 15th. The Ten Women Venice Gallery invites you to participate in our upcoming tribute in honor of Barbie’s 50th anniversary. This is a juried one day show, Friday August 7th, in conjunction with Venice Beach Abbot Kinney’s monthly First Friday event and gallery member Patricia Ander’s Barbie Redux opening reception. All media, excluding performance art and video, will be considered. You may submit up to 5 pieces, no larger than 40” on any side. There is no fee to submit- there will be a $20 jury fee for accepted artists plus a 20% commission to the gallery on sold works. Please send jpegs (no larger than 1800px X 1800px) and the title of you work, size, medium and price to Turkeyred1@aol.com.

Deadline to receive submission is August 1, 2009; Sacred Memories: Cross-Cultural Celebrations of Day of the Dead; From October 19 to November 27, 2009, El Pueblo Historical Monument will present Sacred Memories: Cross-Cultural Celebrations of Day of the Dead. Sacred Memories follows El Pueblo’s acclaimed 2007 exhibition which explored celebrations that venerate the departed including Dia de los Muertos, first observed by the indigenous people of Latin America, China’s Qingming, and other rituals practiced in United States, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. Artists are asked to submit for consideration two and three-dimensional work (including ofrendas/altars) that examines rituals honoring the deceased and/or pays tribute to departed ancestors.
Submissions should be sent to:

Submissions will be accepted in the following formats:
1) CD containing digital images, i.e. jpeg format
2) Photographic prints
3) Slides
Absolutely no email (electronic) submissions will be considered. Do not
mail or drop off original work.
The following information must accompany the submission:
1) Artist’s first and last name, telephone number and email address (if available)
2) Title of work, year executed, media, dimensions and price (if for sale).
3) Artists who wish their entries be returned to them must include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
A maximum of six (6) submissions from each artist will be reviewed. All submissions must be the artist’s original work. Artists whose work is accepted for the exhibit will be notified in late August.
