What's Happening in So California?

Feb 20-22; Hillcrest Fine Arts Festival at Hillcrest Congregational Church, 2000 West Rd, La Habra Heights; free parking and admission. Opens at 10:00am. SAQA Member Joanell Connolly of Huntington Beach, will have a booth at this show.

Curated by Gerri Johnson-McMillin, Deborah Jarchow, Brecia Kralovic-Logan, Michael Rohde; Show Dates: May 16 – July 4, 2009; Reception/Awards: June 13, 2009, 4:00PM – 6:00PM; "Fiber Open" - A national juried Fiber Open exhibition. All fiber media, from traditional to contemporary to innovative, are welcome including weaving, basketry, sculpture, felting, papermaking, beading, knitting, crocheting and embroidery. Juror: Carol Sauvion, producer of Craft in America documentary series, and founder of Freehand Gallery; Download the Call for Entries. "Small Art Quilt Open"- A national juried small format art quilt exhibition. All quilts from traditional to contemporary to innovative are welcome. The only restriction is size: 12" on the longest dimension. Juror: Charlotte Bird, on Board of Directors of Quilt Visions and chairs the 2008 juried international exhibition at the Oceanside Museum of Art. Download the Call for Entries.

Call for Artists for
Collage Mania 2009:
All materials are acceptable, but collages should contain some fiber (paper, fabric, or other fibrous material). Collages may be any size, but they must be mounted or finished to 10x8." Art quilts are accepted and encouraged! Deadline for receipt of jpegs is April 1, 2009. Collage Mania, May 5 - 7, 2009, offers all collages for a minimum $80 donation to the American Cancer Society through Fiberart For A Cause on Gold Donor Day, May 5, and a minimum donation of $40 on May 6 and May 7. You can see all the collages from Collage Mania 2008, here. Collage Mania II raised $13,000 for the American Cancer Society in two days. Collage Mania 2009's goal: raise $20,000 in three days.

Quilt Visions Member Juried Exhibition: "Interpretations" deadline is July 18th; Quilt Visions members are invited to submit up to three (3) entries of high quality art work in any fiber medium for a juried exhibition at the Visions Art Quilt Gallery. Only one work from each artist is eligible for exhibit. Art works for sale are strongly encouraged and preferred, but NFS (Not For Sale) works may be entered. The Gallery’s commission is 50% of the retail price. Art work may not exceed 84 inches on any side. Entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2007.
